Current By Discover Card

February 12th, 2009 David No comments

Today I received a mail from Discover Card. It seems that Discover Card is going to launch a new card-Current by Discover Card. This Current by Discover Card is actually a debit card. It is not a credit card. According to the introduction, this card is designed for parents to teach teens to manage money. This card is a new debit card which allows parents to set daily spending limit.

What is Current by Discover Card?

Unofficially, this Current by Discover Card is a new kind of debit card which allows parents and their teens to control and introduce smart spending habits. With this new debit card, children can learn how to manage their money and develop spending habits. This card can be used at everywhere that Discover Card is accepted. You can even get cash from ATMs.

What’s new with Current by Discover Card?

The only feature that catchs my eyes is it allows parents to set daily/weekly/monthly spending caps and also the ability to block certain kinds of merchant categories like liquor stores, tobacco stores, bars and ATM withdrawals. This Current by Discover Card also features e-mail, tet message and online statement to let parents monitor and track their chilren’s useage of money.

It’s easy to load money to this Current by Discover Card. Parents can set up their account to automatically add money to the Current by Discover Card from their Discover Card or another major credit card or debit card, from a bank account or by direct deposit. Teens can also set up free direct deposit and have their paycheck deposited into the account. There is a $2,500 per card limit on this card.

Parents can customerize daily, weekly or monthly spending limit for each Current by Discover Card. The limit can be adjusted easily. Since this is a debit card, this card will not affect parents or teens’ credit report.

AS I mentioned at the very beginning, this card allows parents restrict certain merchant categories. This can be done easily in the account center by clicking “Manage This Card” tab.

There are different card designs to choose from. The only downside of this card is there is a $5 membership fee for each month. So the annual fee would be $60. More details can be found at CurrentbyDiscover.com or 1-866-99-CURRENT (1-866-992-8773).

Escape By Discover Card-25000 Bonus Miles

February 11th, 2009 David No comments

Discover just launched a new credit card-the Escape by Discover Card which is offering 25,000 bonus miles for new customers. This is an upgraded version of the Miles by Discover Card which is offering 12,000 bonus miles without annual fee. But this Escape by Discover Card has a $60 annual fee. This new travel rewards card is designed for those don’t travel a lot but want to accumulate miles for future use.

About the 25,000 bonus miles:

Escape by Discover Card offers 1,000 miles for each month you make a purchase with this card for the first 25 months. The total bonus miles you can get are 25,000 miles.

About the rewards program:

With this new upgraded miles credit card, you can earn 2 miles for every dollar you spend on this card. You will earn 2 additional miles for each $1 you spend through ShopDiscover, Discover’s exclusive online shopping network. To make the rewards even sweeter, there’s no limit on how many miles you can earn and the miles you accumulated never expire. The most attractive part is the miles can be redeemed for unrestricted travel credits to your credit card or even gift card or cash rewards.

For every 10,000 miles you can get $100 travel credit to your credit card account. For every 5,000 miles you can get $25 deposited to your bank account. Personally I like the travel credit method.  Of course, it’s up to you on how to redeem the bonus miles. There is no restrict on how to redeem the miles.

There is a $60 annual fee associated with this credit card. It can not be waived. The information about the Escape by Discover Card can be found at http://www.discovercard.com/escape/. However, the official Discovercard website only offers 12,000 bonus miles. If you want to take advantage of the 25,000 bonus miles, you have to follow this link.

If you really like to accumulate miles, you should consider the Escape by Discover Card which is an upgraded version of the Miles by Discover Card.

Holiday Promotions from Credit Card Issuers

December 22nd, 2008 David 1 comment

I have introduced a lot of promotions from our credit card issuers like Chase, Discover Card and American Express. Actually, there are many more promotions from other credit card issuers. PayPal is running huge promotions via corporate with other online merchants like buy.com. This is a summary of holiday promotions from many credit card issuers and other payment processing providers.

Discover Card

The most famous and popular promotion from Discover Card is the Discover Mall Promotion. I first reported this promotion in September. You can take the chance to save with a  $20 Discover Gift Card for every $200 you spend on your Discover credit card at over 160 shopping malls nationwide through Jan. 4, 2009. According to the terms and rules, there is a limit of five gift cards per account with a total of $100 value. No enrollment is necessary. The process is quite simple, take your receipts with you to the customer service at each participating mall and the officers there will issue a $20 Discover Gift card for every $200.

Chase

First of all, the famous Chase Rewards Plus program is offering cash back for shopping online through the Chase Rewards Plus. Chase Freedom Cardholders are automatically enrolled in the program. You can get up to 20% cash back from top online retailers.

Chase is also running the Holiday Bonus Rewards promotion. This seems to be a targeted offer, every registered cardholder can receive a $25 Target Gift Card for purchases exceeding certain threshold amounts in preset categories made from Oct. 1 through Dec. 31. The promotion website is here. You can visit the website to see whether you are eligible or not and how to get the $25 gift card. If you register you credit card at the chase bonus website, you can see other wonderful promotions like: 500 bonus points for adding an authorized user to your account, 1,000 bonus points for enrolling at Chase Online, and 2,500 bonus points for signing on for Chase Fraud Detector.

Bank of America

Bank of America is offering $10 for every $100 you spend getting around the New York City. The promotion website is here. You have to enroll your Bank of America visa credit card to be eligible to get the $10 cash back. Maximum amount you can get is $100.

Visa

Visa is running discount promotions with many top merchants. The promotion details can be found at visa.com. Visit the visa.com and find out the promotion details at each merchant. Print out valuable coupons with 20% or more savings. The promotions cover all you need for the holiday season. But you have to have a Visa credit card to use those coupons.

MasterCard

MasterCard is also running a wonderful promotion with Home Depot. You can get the details of the promotion by visiting the MasterCard Overjoy of Giving website. The promotion offers every MasterCard cardholder a chance to win two identical prizes — one to keep and the other to give. Winners will have the chance to receive two identical cars, trips, shopping sprees or home makeovers courtesy of The Home Depot. The rule is very simple: every time you use your MasterCard to make a purchase during the promotion period ( Nov. 1 and Jan. 2, 2009) you will automatically get a chance to win that week’s sweepstakes.

You can also visit MasterCard website to find the latest discount information for using your MasterCard credit card.
