About 10 million U.S. households save online and more are going to open online savings accounts, money market accounts or CDs. According to Celent, a market-research firm, which predicts 23 million by 2010.To attract more customers, online banks usually pay higher interest rates on savings accounts, money market accounts, or CDs. Another feature is online banks always run great promotions to lure new customers.

Today I was notified by a reader about the new promotion from HSBC. According to the promotion page, you can get up to $100 MasterCard gift card for opening a Plus checking account and an HSBC credit card. Although I personally think this promotion is not attractive to all of us, I’d like to mention this promotion at MyCardBlog together with another checking account bonus offer from Wells Fargo.

Normally, the back-to-school season is the second largest retail season of the year. Microsoft launched the “Back to School Deal Days” promotion and doubled the cash back rate for most of its merchants. If you want to find something for this fall semester, it’s time to do a little research at www.live.com/cashback to save money for the coming school year. However, Microsoft is not the only one to promote back-to-school deals. PayPal just launched the back-to-school promotion from which you can save up to 50% when you shop and pay via PayPal.

Since the failure of IndyMac in this July, there are many other bank failures as reported by FDIC. First Priority Bank in Bradenton, Florida was reported to be close and FDIC has assigned SunTrust Bank to acquire the insured deposits. One week earlier, July 25, there were other two banks reported to fail. They were First National Bank of Nevada and First Heritage Bank. We all know that Fridays are the typical days when the Feds close banks with the FDIC taking them over. However, we never thought to see banks fail in this way.

Chase just released another promotion on Chase Visa Check Card. My latest Chase check card promotion was posted here from which you can get $25 credit for every $250 charged on Chase Visa Check card with “no PIN” purchases. It seems this is a targeted offer and only those invited can enroll their Chase check cards. If you can’t register your Chase check cards, you can try this offer.
