Save Money with Shell Saver Card

There are many ways to save on gas. I have many posts on how to save gas: 5 Top-Rated Gas Rebate Cards and How to Save Money on Gas. Choose a good gas credit card is an easy job to save money on gas. I strongly suggest the Discover Open Road Card for our drivers. I have been using this credit card for more than 1 year and liked it very much.

Shell Oil Products just launched the new Shell Saver Card which is directly linked to your checking or savings account without credit payment. This new Shell Saver Card is a debit card like payment option at the Shell gas pumps.

According to the press release, the Shell is the first gasoline retailer to make an electronic check payment method available to consumers nationally.

The Shell Saver Card is a non-credit payment product issued to consumers directly from Shell, has no application or annual fees and offers a promotional savings of 5 cents per gallon on Shell gasoline or diesel purchases until June 1, 2009 and 2 cents per gallon thereafter. Because the card is linked to a checking account, it offers the added advantage of no impact on consumer credit scores, especially important to consumers who wish to avoid using credit. Consumers who apply for the Shell Saver Card must have an active checking account in good standing to qualify.

Besides the ability to buy gasoline at the pumps, the Shell Saver card can also be used to by any products at shell stations except lottery tickets. The 5 cents discount applies only to gasoline and diesel purchases. More information can be found at www.shellsavercard.com.

Supersavercard looks very lucrative, but; since it is handled similarly as a debit card, what charges would be incurred by the account holder’s bank for each transaction. It is almost always that the consumer loses out somehow in the end.

    Thanks,

    Elias

I’ve been using this card for about three weeks now. On the gas receipt, it won’t tell you how much you save right away, you need to check against with your transaction history on your debit card. I save about 1-2 dollars each time I pump gas, too bad it changes to 2cents per gallon after June 1.

I activated a Shell Saver Card. When I went to use it at the pump it gave me the message “See Cashier”. I dcecided to put the card back in my pocket and use my regular debit card. I told the cashier about the pump not taking the card as a debit and she said others have had the same problem. When I called Shell customer service I was told I would have to see the cashier each time I used it.
Customer service did not seem to care and honored my request to cancel it with out even trying to solve the problem. I would not recomend wasting your time with this card.

Hi – i was wondering if anyone felt uncomfortable about giving out your checking acccct number and DL# over the internet- and if the person pumping gas was able to somehow call up and get info and possibly hack into your bank acct., or at least get too much info about you from this card- I decided not to apply based on these req’s! feedback appreciated!what do you think?

I had a card for about 1-1/2 month. Found I could not use it at least two of the stations in my area (Western Virginia). The one station that did accept it typically charges 7 to 15 cents more than the other stations. NO SAVINGS THERE! I called Shell to try to resolve the problem and was told I needed to go the the stations and get their information so that they could resolve their problem. I told the woman to take out of the system and cut up the card instead. I should note that the brochures are available at the station that do not accept the card.

This is a gimmick… I have not found a gas pump that this card will work on, each time I try to use it I get some kind of error message. Not worth the time. (not to mention the fact that in my area, each shell station is within a few blocks of a competing station that is cheaper to outweigh any savings that would have occurred if this card had worked)

The problem with these gas stations is they debit $25 to $100 from a card on top of the price of the gas you bought. This is totally ridiculous. Even though they put back the additioal amount, this practice is iilegal as they don’t give interest rate for the time they are holding it up for no reason.

Shell seemed to be closing out Shell Master card for cutomers for no good reason. Do they think that people would go for Shell debit card. Wrong. I am now using BP. Mobile is now giving generous credit and their prices are lower than Shell. I used to be loyal Shell gas customer but not anymore.

I have been using my card for several weeks. My car runs better on Shell gasoline, and getting 5 cents deducted per gallon makes it even better. Don’t forget you have to activate the card before it works–I had trouble first time too, but it was because I didn’t read about how it needs to be activated. I think it’s great, and I have gotten one for my son who is at college. I’m telling all my friends about it. Five cents doesn’t seem like much but it adds up!

The shell card is better. You get 5% back on gas purchases at Shell (1% at other stations and on other purchases) and that is the everyday rate. Not only does it tell you how much you saved each time you fill up, but it also automatically credits the rebate to your account during the next billing cycle. Easy as pie. Right now I am consistently saving at least 15 cents/gallon making it cheaper than ARCO or Costco.
