No Free FICO Credit Score from WaMu Credit Cards

January 28th, 2009 David Leave a comment Go to comments

The WaMu Visa Platinum Credit Card was very popular among credit card members due to its unique free FICO credit score check. Actually, the credit card was previously owned by Providian. Now, since WaMu was acquired by Chase, all financial products provided by WaMu will be merged to Chase system. In this way. the bad news is no more FREE FICO credit score will be displayed.

I believe all WaMu credit card members have received the email sent out by WaMu titled “Important information about your credit card online access”. There will be many new important changes in the near future about the WaMu credit cards. All online access to WaMu credit cards will be moved to Chase online on March 9, 2009, including credit card account management, online payments and email alerts.

The most important point in the email is “However, please note that your free FICO credit score will no longer be displayed, and only 3 months of transaction history will be available online. If you wish to access your historical transaction information currently available online, you will need to save, download, or print it by March 1, 2009.

Online access to wamucards.com will be unavailable from March 4-8, 2009. The new website for WaMu credit card members is www.chase.com/wamucards.

But actually all the online credit card account features keep the same:

Your credit card account number will remain the same.
Just keep using your WaMu card until it expires; we’ll send you a new Chase card before the expiration date.

You can reach us at the same toll-free number.
Continue to call the phone number on the back of your card whenever you need help from a Service Representative.

You’ll pay your credit card the same way you always have.
Simply mail your payment to the mailing address on your statement. Or, beginning March 9, you can pay by phone, online or at any of our Chase or WaMu branches. We’ll send you a new payment address when your Chase card arrives.

From my points of view, there is no need to keep the WaMu credit card since the free FICO credit score feature will be no longer available.

I urge folks to send a message to JP Morgan and express their dissatisfaction about the removal of Free Fico, and also take their business else where. I will be moving my savings and CC business if they dont restore the service!

This is the only reason I got this card. I will definitely be taking my service elsewhere. The number one rule when you take over a business is to honor previous commitments.

I’m a WAMU customer since 2002 and I’m very satisfied with their services. Now that Chase is changing the very reason why I stayed at WAMU, like most of their clients, I’m pretty sure Chase will regret that they’ve removed the free FICO. Most of WAMU’s customer (including me, of course) will no longer do business with Chase anymore. Bye Chase…

My boyfriend and I both signed up for this card because of the credit tracking service years ago. It has been really useful, but aside from that I see no benefits to this card versus my other accounts. So get ready to lose two more customers, Chase.

I too will be closing this account. That sure didn’t take them long to start stripping away the benefits I have enjoyed as a WaMu customer for so long. I’m also going to move my savings, checking, and CDs elsewhere. I just don’t want to deal with a company that is going to take over WaMu, but then not honor any of the terms and commitments it had previously made to its customers.

I have three more payments to make and than I also will be closing this account with Chase!! I really don`t want to pay $7.99, per month for the FICO Score that Chase wants to charge!!!

  10. March 10th, 2009 at 05:44 | #10

Chase is nothing but a money hungry bank! Plus I get poor service everytime I deal with them. I have been tired of Chase for a long time and this just puts icing on the cake. Chase if you see this, I will not be using my credit card anymore!

  11. March 10th, 2009 at 05:44 | #11

I agree this is not right. After some research i found Chase does offer the same credit score reading but for a fee of $7.99 or so a month.
Lame. I have 3 accounts with Chase which will all soon go bye bye if Chase does not settle this FICO thing.

I just found out that Chase lost the payment I made on March 1 and have charged me multiple $39 service fees for their mistake! I am closing my account.

Two more dissatisfied customers here. Not only to mention their RIDICULOUS $120 annual service fee charge on the account of my wife (which they now, coming to their senses in the face of multiple lawsuits, refunded – under false pretense of “listening to a feedback of their customers! LOL. Listen to this then! Give us WaMu customers back our free FICO score reports!), but now this! I will close my 10+ years-long checking and saving, all Chase, and, alas ex-WaMu cards, and wave Chase (aka Greed) bye-bye. Cause the next thing you will see is no longer free checking and savings, annual fees on other CCs and who knows what else they may (and believe me, WILL!) come up with.
    Ugrh…complicated sentences ::)

Keep in mind you are dealing with a bank that does not want you to have a high credit score. In fact they make the whole process impossible to reconcile so you have no idea how the credit final score is created and if it is with out flaw. It is to the Chase’s advantage for them to be able to give you access to a credit line, and no matter at what % of that line you access then for no other reason then another creditor does the same thing lower your credit line which increases the % of credit you are using then they once agin lower your score and on we go.
The effect on the card holder is higher and higher interest rates. Until big brother steps in to put a lid on the issue you and I are at the mercy of banks.
Best think we can all do is do not use credit cards, thank God I am free of that burden.

In addition to no FICO score has anyone else had a problem with their interest rates on credit cards going from 9.9% to 29.9% without any notice?

Guys, I’m also about to leave chase, soon as I clear my outstanding balance. Sears has a credit card that also provides a free fico score, so obviously this is my next stop.

I tried http://www.creditkarma.com & I recommend checking it out. I’m using it until it lasts. They offer free credit fico score from transunion in exchange of ad revenue on their page.

I urge you all to take action! (feel free to copy and paste, or make changes to this message). You have inspired me to take action! The following is a message I sent to Chase:

Along with several other dissatisfied customers, I would like to request that the free FICO score that WAMU previously offered on the credit card be reinstated. This was a helpful tool for those people trying to manage their debt and raise their credit scores. Please consider reinstating this feature on the credit cards. You will win back many customers if you do choose to honor this request. Thank you Chase. I hope to continue doing business with you. Sincerely, Amber
