I am writing about the bonus from Citi Checking and Saving account. Currently available bonus:
- $200 Checking-Code: MGCH, Expires 12/31/07. You can’t get online information about this promotion. First $100 requires a $1,500 deposit into EZ Checking. Second $100 requires you to sign up and use direct deposit for 6 consecutive months or pay 2 bills a month for 6 consecutive months.
- $100 Ultimate Savings Account-Code: CSLN, Expires 9/30/07. You can find the information here. You can get the $100 at ease. All you have to do is open this account. No checking account is required, and there are no minimum balance or monthly fees as long as it’s held as a stand-alone account.
- $50 Ultimate Money Account-Code: CSNL, Expires 9/30/07. You can find the information here. You have to open the Ultimate Money Account with a new regular checking account in the EZ Checking package.
If you have any questions, please call 800-624-9600 for help. They can be more helpful. Usually Citi will pull your credit report in order to open a new account.
Important notice: The expiration date is coming….hurry!

Hi, Yang. Thank you very much! I will call Citi bank to confirm this.

I just called in and they said this promo code is still available for new customers. Thanks.

Hi,
“To receive this offer you must apply for and open a new Ultimate Savings Account by 08/31/2007″
The Ultimate Savings Account Code sounds already expired.
Thanks!

Hi, Xin. Thank you very much. I think it’s still good until 09/30/2007. I don’t know why they don’t change the small fine print. But I confirmed this information through I phone call to Citi bank. I don’t know whether it’s a trick. My suggestion is wait until the next promotion. Recent years, the cost to attract a new bank customer is becoming higher and higher (from $50 to $200~250). I think Citi will give out new promotions before Christmas. A hard pull will reflect on your credit report when you open an account with Citi.

Do you have a checking account or saving account? If you just have their credit card account(s), I think you’re qualified.

hi cardoffer. i’m planning to apply an ultimate money account with an ez checking.
have the $200 and $50 bonus already expired?
i tried to fill the application website, but didn’t find the place to enter code until Verify step. Does it mean it can’t work?
thx a lot.
btw, if these stuff don’t work, is it better to look for some other bank, or just wait until some similar deal comes out again?

Checking should be OK. But the bonus for saving account has been expired. And as Xin mentioned the fine print under the application page “apply for and open a new Ultimate Savings Account by 08/31/2007.”. I don’t know whether this is a trick from Citi bank or not. They update their rate daily but I don’t know why they didn’t update the expiration date. For me, I will wait and see. But I am sure checking is OK. I called Citi twice and both CSR gave me positive answers. If you want to opend checking account, I think it’s fine. For saving, please wait. Or you can see other saving accounts.

thx cardoffer.
i called citi today, but they said they can’t find the bonus and can’t guarantee me getting this deal….
should i just apply online? actually i didn’t find the place to enter the code (until verify step)
btw, the phone no u gave 800-624-9600, is it Citi? or some other organization?
thx
October 10th, 2007 at 2:05 pm
Yes. That phone number is for Citi. As I mentioned before, different CSR will give different answers. But honestly, I didn’t jump for the Citi deal. I will be waiting for the next deal comes out. IF you want to apply, the code should be put in the first step. Before you put in your personal information. Please check your application page. maybe you can go through http://www.citibank.com.

man, do u mean the offer code at the very beginning for Citibank® EZ Checking? it says it’s incorrect…..
i think maybe it’s different for people in different states.
btw, i called 800-624-9600, also, he says it’s not citi but some ‘reprimand’ sth…
anyway, thx for ur info. maybe i should follow u to wait for another deal too. i’ll keep an eye on ur blog. ^_^

Yeah. Usually Citi is not willing to give bonus. So that’s why we can’t see actual expiration date or something like wrong expiration date. I don’t like this. I got $100 from BOA and Chase.I dare not to play with Citi right now. Also I have too many Checking accounts. Thanks.

Complains about Citi:
Citibank is the absolute worse.
because of their promos, I’ve tried to open checking accounts with them and failed both times.
of course since there are not citibanks nearby, I had to open either online or over the phone.
The first time I opened it over the phone, the Indian rep, butchered my first and last name (he repeated my name correctly on the phone though!)..but when I got the card, it was completely wrong.
long story short, after calling back and forth for a month, they never approved my checking account b/c it wouldnt match with my credit report.
Hard inquiry.
the 2nd time, months later, I applied online, and was never approved again because they didnt bother to call me for id check. Another hard hit.
I’ve given up on them. IMO, I suggest not to do business with them b/c of their lack of good support and also because they do hard pulls

Again:
It’s been a month since I opened two accounts at Citibank. I already have a credit card with them. For some reason, I thought it would be a good idea to move my banking relationship to Citibank, but the account opening process has been nothing but complete hell.
Since I am a student in PA but with residence in CA, I was advised by one of their call centers in India that I should just go to a branch and submit verification documents there. Having done that, one week later I find out that they can’t accept these documents because it’s not a CA branch (and they call themselves a “global” bank…). So then I go ahead and fax my phone bills, IDs, etc, and they say they have accepted these and will unlock my accounts in “24 hours”. I’ve already been told 5 times that in the “next 24 hours” they’ll be unlocked. But I keep calling everyday and once again it’s “in the next 24 hours”. Now they have escalated the issue to their supervisors, but how can I even trust them that someone will actually do anything?
Would you recommend I just cancel my accounts and go to a bank that is not as incompetent?
Is there a way to file a complaint? Because they certainly don’t seem to care about their disastrous customer service. Since day one of opening my accounts I have been given nothing but deceitful information, causing me to waste time.

worst service at citibank
October 18th, 2007 at 5:15 pm
now MGCH doesn’t work online. Citi CS absolutely becomes worse and worse during the past several years. it is a pain in the ass to talk to an Indian CSR who has no clue of his own job.+_+
October 18th, 2007 at 6:23 pm
Wow. I thought the MGCH should be work until 12/31! I do agree with you all. The customer service is much worse than before. However, with AMEX, you can always hear native American English….I won’t touch Citi.
